Our Hawks had the second-best odds to land another number-one overall pick in the NHL Draft this year. With just a 3.5% chance, the e New York Islanders were bounced into the top spot. The Islanders have the right to pick first for the fifth time in team history, and first since selecting Tavares with the No. 1 pick in 2009. Utah won the second lottery drawing and made the jump from 14th to fourth under the rules limiting teams from moving up no more than 10 spots in the draft order.
The Blackhawks had to settle for the third pick, after selecting first and second the last two years. But the team’s first priority is drafting a head coach.
“Ultimately, we want someone that’s excited about what’s going on in Chicago, and you know, based on the reaction, and my phone every day, this is quite — it’s an appealing job, and we feel that, and we know that,” said Hawks G.M. Davidson, “but we’ve got to find the right person that fits what we’re doing, and that’s kind of the course we’re running right now.”. Hawks fired Richardson in December, and Sörensen has been at the helm on an interim basis since.

Still, the Hawks are in prime position to get an elite forward prospect as the strength of this draft is at center and wing.
Hagens is a highly-skilled center who fits the profile the Hawks love in their forwards. However, he is the same size as Bedard and Nazar. That is not a bad thing as Hagens has some serious skill. It is just the Hawks could use some more size among their prospect group.
Martone has the size the Hawks need, however, his skated ability is rated below average. Skating ability is one of the four traits the Hawks love in their players.
Frondell could also be an option, who is a bit bigger than Hagens.
Button has it going Schaefer Martone Misa.
Cosentino has it Shaefer Misa Desnoyers
I like the trade aspects with everyone involved. Think there is going to be a lot of movement on June 27th.
Would be sooooo good for Hawks to get M & M ……
ER- Rather have Misa and Martone. More needs filled there.
Martone Misa and Caleb Desnoyers played together on Team CHL’s most prolific line during the 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge. They were known for their strong play, especially on the power play, and their ability to control the pace of the game.
JR looks like we gonna missa on Misa.
OK – here’s some wishful thinking …
If the Islanders decide they want their hometown boy Hagens but they know they can get him at #3 – the Hawks offer them #3 and the Toronto pick (#29-#32 ?) for the #1 pick – then they take Schaefer with the #1 pick.
Then they find out SJ really wanted Schaefer and since he is not available the Hawks offer them Vlasic for the #2 pick and then take Misa with the #2 pick.
The Hawks lose Vlasic and the Toronto pick but get Schaefer and Misa.
SS – I must have fat fingered something because I meant to say that Elite Prospects had Frondell at #12 – Martone at #3.
Looked at some mock drafts and here what some picked for Hawks at #3
Wheeler Frondell
Kimelman O’Brien
Morrale Hagens
Isacke Martone
Tankathon Martone
My NHL Mock Hagens
FC Hockey Desnoyers
NHL Draft Pro Martone
Tactix Frondell
Bartner Martone
Didn’t Martone play with 2 speedsters on his line ?
Of course he gunna look slow…
Misa would look slow playing with McDavid as well….. lol
Not sure ifI’m looking at the same thing, but
ELITEPROSPECTS.COM Draft Ranking 2025
ELITEPROSPECTS.COM TOP 32 – APRIL RANKING
1.Schaefer 2. Misa 3. Martone 4. Hagens
65, I with you the most. Good thing we have some options and aren’t stuck with you are 6th and this is who’s left.
Don’t want that as selection option/none.
Gut says Frondell deys can be had around 5-8 would rather get that player with 26 pick.
Who’s in that draft that’s like that.
I like the best top6 player route. A top line player. Misa or Hagens.
Thanks ER. I asked the question wrong – You say Elite Prospects has Martone PROJECTED to go 3rd, but consensus is 12 (which is kind of astounding!). I was wondering who their consensus pick was for 3rd since it wasn’t Martone. I’m guessing then Hagens. I can poke around.
I’m very mixed on the pick and would really prefer a trade of the pick for an NHL ready player if Misa isn’t available.
Martone’s skating appears to be the concern, but I really like the size. Mixed emotions here on Hagens or Martone.
WeakGloveHand compares Frontell as a possible Barkov. If true – I’ll take 2 of those please!
Mo, I did. Need skill and my choice is either Misa or Hagens because they are complete top line highly skilled talent. The other’s below them have great skill but have some work to do on get at the same level.
I could actual see Hagens going to the Isles because it would make a great story like last year with Celebrini. He is from Long Island and his wingman is Eiserman who they drafted last year.
The Hawks are in a great position at 3 but would have been a lot better at two.
